Title: The Sea Remembers in Silence
— Blue Goldstone & Copper Pendant by Rubi Ace
There is a darkness I do not fear.
Not all darkness devours. Some watches you quietly, breath held, as you slip into it. As child in Makarska—wild-haired, always barefoot, too full of salt and questions—I used to swim at night when the cicadas gave way to disco basslines from hotel terraces, and the pebbled shore whispered stories under the hush of waves.
The sea, black as ink, pressed itself against my skin like a memory not yet formed. It was not cold. It was a hush. A comfort. I would float there, heartbeat barely a thing, and think that the sea had swallowed all the stars and was holding them for safekeeping.
That memory is in this pendant.
Not just stone—this blue goldstone, flecked with those same hidden stars—but the shape of the copper wire, the way it coils and curves like the sound of tide pulling back. There is a heart, woven subtly into the crown, not a heart as you would find in a shop window, but the kind found in real life: fragile, veined with tension, beautiful because it has been made by hand.
Every bend of wire was made in silence. I do not rush. I do not design. I remember.
There is, near the base, a curve slightly misfolded—almost imperceptible, but it is there. I leave it, like the stones I used to stub my toes on as a girl. Life is never perfectly wrapped. The most honest beauty is flawed, unedited.
To wear this piece is not to adorn, but to recall.
To feel that hush of the deep again.
To remember being held by something much larger than you—something that did not ask you to explain yourself, only to enter.
If I could write music with metal, this is how it would sound.
